Capbreton Towns and Villages in Capbreton

  • English
    • Formerly a port on the mouth of the Adour before it was diverted to Bayonne, Capbreton was famous for its whaling until the 12th century, cetaceans then passed off the coast and sailors tracked them down to in the waters of the far north. Capbreton is today a renowned seaside resort, on the edge of the Basque Country and separated from Hossegor by the Boudigau canal. Stroll first on the seafront, discover the superb view of the Basque coast to the south and the Pyrenees, the wooden pier (pier built under Napoleon), the fish market, and the fishing eco-museum and its Aquarium . Superb fine sandy beaches and a geological particularity as soon as you leave the port, but unfortunately invisible to the naked eye: the Gouf, an underwater canyon 3 to 10km deep!
